Cyril Pavlov : ウィキペディア英語版
Cyril Pavlov
Cyril Pavlov, elder Cyril (in Russian: Кирилл Павлов), in life: Ivan Dmitrievich Pavlov, is a Russian Orthodox Christian mystic, elder, wonder-worker and Archimandrite, who was confessor to Patriarch Alexy II. He was also confessor to the previous patriarchs Alexy I and Pimen. He is held in such reverence among Russian Christians that many wait to see him for months or even years.
==Biography==
Ivan Dmitrievich Pavlov was born 8 September 1919 in Makovskiye Vyselki, Ryazan Oblast, to a peasant family. After finishing the polytechnical college he worked as a technician at a metallurgic plant. Pavlov served in the military during World War II, active for six years, starting in the Soviet-Finnish War; he also went through the Battle of Stalingrad. He was awarded the medal and title of "Hero of the Soviet Union" for his part in the defence of Stalingrad.
As a soldier, Pavlov reached Austria and participated in the battles at Lake Balaton. In 1946 he was demobilised in Hungary and came to Moscow.
Many (see, for example, Anthony Beever, ''Stalingrad'') regarded him to be as much a hero of Stalingrad as the sergeant Yakov Pavlov after whom Pavlov's House was named. However Father Cyril rejected such statements. To those who approach him with this type of question he answered, "That had remained in the other life." It is said, that once the archimandrite was called into the Military Commission of Sergiev Posad and asked what to say to Moscow chiefs about the defender of Stalingrad, Pavlov. Elder Cyril answered, "Say that I died...".
